Seventh graders can now be vaccinated without parents’ knowledge or permission.

Vaccine marketers scored a landmark victory in California in October 2011 when Jerry Brown fetched the stick and signed into law a new bill allowing schools to vaccinate 12 year olds without informing their parents.

That’s right. Kids now choose.

Falling into step with other compliant governors like Rick Perry and WA state’s Christine Gregoire, Brown demonstrated once more his allegiance to the bottomless coffers of the drug industry lobby. Common sense, putting children in harm’s way, running roughshod over parent’s rights, responsible science – not relevant. Seems the world just got a little worse.

There can be no doubt that the underlying motive behind the new law was the promotion of the controversial Human Papilloma Virus vaccine [see HPV chapter] [1].

But the new law never mentions HPV.

Although this vaccine has been on the adolescent Vaccine Schedule for 5 years now, many parents are losing confidence in it lately and have been opting out of the vaccine for their 12 year olds. The primary reasons are

Lack of demonstrable necessity
Lack of scientific testing
Verifiable and admitted harmful side effects

The reader is referred to the above chapter [1] for the details of the confused rationale that has always haunted the marketing of this strange vaccine, as doctors struggled to justify the vaccine’s necessity at all.

But with this new law, now they have done something unprecedented in vaccine promo by allowing the state to come between parents and their own children.

The whole science discussion is a study in confusion and misdirection, which is just the way Merck wants it – Merck being the inventor of the Gardasil HPV vaccine, and the ultimate beneficiary of the new law. To try and grasp what they have just accomplished by this bill, the parent must first review some basic facts about

1. cancer of the cervix
2. its relation to Human Papilloma virus
3. the HPV vaccine

.CANCER OF THE CERVIX

Cancer of the cervix now affects some 13,000 American women, 4,000 of whom die. [1] Most deaths are in the worst living environments in the US, among the most immune-suppressed groups. But like with all cancers, the cause of this one remains unknown.

Cervical cancer has been declining dramatically in the United States, from nearly 15 cases for every 100,000 women in 1975 to nearly 7 per 100,000 in 2008. [12] Nothing to do with vaccines.

In the 1970s, herpes simplex virus was proposed as a possible cause, but that hypothesis was soon abandoned after studies proved inconclusive.

In the 1990s the next candidate suggested was Human Papilloma virus. [2] But the link was never proven.

For this the first cancer vaccine, the PR department at Merck was hard put to come up with a convincing scientific rationale – how any HPV vaccine could possibly prevent cancer of the cervix.

The primary obstacle was that HPV could not be proven as the cause of any cancer. Or any disease at all, for that matter. But is it precisely this claimed causation between HPV and cervical cancer that necessitates the vaccine at all, right? Without hard evidence, the vaccine is exposed as a useless sham.

.NO PROVEN CONNECTION: HPV AND CANCER

Here’s the short version of how the HPV supposedly causes cancer of the cervix, according to Merck scientists.

First of all, in any cancer, we’re talking about a normal cell that mutated and then began to make copies of itself, unchecked.

The creators of the HPV/ cancer myth are pretending that the HPV came along and attacked some normal cells and mutated those cells and caused them to begin replicating themselves out of control – cancer. And that this is happening on a mass scale even though we just discovered it. And worse, that a vaccine can neutralize that type of attack on normal cervix cells.

Any scientist not on the payroll of Merck will see the problem with this new ‘hit-and-run’ theory right off the bat. The simple fact is that viruses don’t replicate in cancer cells. [Duesberg, 3]. Before this marketing campaign for HPV vaccine, no virus was ever claimed as carcinogenic.

But it gets even worse than that. The HPV vaccine doesn’t even contain HPV! True. Just some particles from the virus. Look it up. [1, 2]

In a few months 12-year-olds in the nation’s most populous state can, without parental consent, get a controversial vaccine in public schools to treat a sexually transmitted disease.

Even for ultra-liberal California this may seem astounding, that children can receive any sort of non-emergency medical treatment without the approval of a guardian. As if this weren’t atrocious enough, the costly vaccine (Gardasil)—linked to dozens of deaths and thousands of debilitating side effects— will be largely financed with taxpayer dollars.

Worse yet is that a disturbing number of girls and young women who received Gardasil have died or suffered  serious adverse effects such as paralysis, seizures and blindness since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fast tracked its approval under pressure from the pharmaceutical giant (Merck) that makes it.  Just this week Judicial Watch released the latest of many daunting federal reports exposing the deaths of 26 girls who received the shot in the last year alone.

Before that Judicial Watch uncovered droves of FDA records, obtained by suing the agency, that document the damage associated with Gardasil which is promoted as a miracle shot that can prevent certain strains of cervical cancer caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). In 2008 JW also published a special report detailing Gardasil’s approval process, side effects, safety concerns and marketing practices. Undoubtedly, it illustrates a large-scale public health experiment.

Yet, incredibly, at least 20 states have passed laws requiring funding for Gardasil or education programs promoting the vaccine.  Among states that have enacted Gardasil-related measures are Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, Rhode Island and Utah. In all 50 states, tax dollars help pay for the shots because the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) makes them available through the federal Vaccines for Children program.

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A San Diego grandmother told 10News on Tuesday that she is outraged after she says her 11-year-old grandson was given a vaccine for human papillomavirus — or HPV — without parental approval.

According to California law, children 12 and older can ask their pediatricians for the shots that prevent cancer-causing sexually transmitted diseases without getting their parents’ approval.

Tammie Dennis said she took her grandson to his pediatrician in National City to get the vaccinations he needed to begin middle school.”The exam went OK,” Dennis told 10News reporter Allison Ash. “They gave him the immunizations and when we were leaving, the nurse gave me a card for follow-up.”Dennis said that is when “the bells went off.”As Dennis began questioning the nurse, she said Dr. Sandra Perez walked up and said, “Don’t make a big deal out of it.” Dennis said Perez told her the shot is part of the normal vaccinations given to all kids.”And I asked her, ‘Do you give this to children without their parents knowing, them not getting any information about what the effects are and why they’re getting it?’” said Dennis.Dennis told 10News she understands the use of the HPV vaccination in girls but said its effects have not been studied in boys.”They’re the guinea pigs in this,” said Dennis. “The FDA is saying it’s OK, but I’m wondering who in the FDA is trying it on their own kids?

Medical professionals said the HPV vaccination protects against some cancers that are sexually transmitted and is most effective when given to young people before they become sexually active. Although it has been approved for children as young as 9 years old, many people are still sharply divided about whether it is appropriate.

WASHINGTON, Oct 10, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) today criticized California Governor Jerry Brown for bowing to pressure from the pharmaceutical and medical trade lobby and signing a controversial bill (AB499) into law that allows 12 year old children to be vaccinated without the knowledge or consent of their parents. The new California law allows minor children as young as 12 years old to be given Gardasil and hepatitis B vaccine, as well as future vaccines for sexually transmitted diseases, without the informed consent of their parents.

“The law, which Governor Brown must take personal responsibility for enacting, is a violation of parental rights and federal vaccine safety law,” said NVIC co-founder and president Barbara Loe Fisher. “He has done what a lot of powerful people are doing today in America, which is making it easy for big corporations and trade organizations, including doctors and drug companies protected from vaccine injury lawsuits, to exploit ordinary people to increase influence and profits. This law will put the lives of minor children too young to make medical decisions at risk. California parents, who will not be informed before their minor children are given vaccines, will be the ones left to deal with the consequences legally and financially if their child becomes vaccine injured.”

The National Vaccine Information Center worked with Congress to secure vaccine safety provisions in the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, including the requirement for doctors and vaccine providers to fully inform parents about vaccine side effects before minor children are vaccinated. The 1986 law, which created a federal vaccine injury compensation program that has awarded more than $2 billion to the vaccine injured, also mandated that doctors and all vaccine providers record and report vaccine adverse effects to the government to help reduce vaccine injuries and deaths.

NVIC Director of Advocacy, Dawn Richardson, who designed NVIC’s online Advocacy Portal ( www.NVICAdvocacy.org ), worked with families in California to provide Governor Brown and the public with information about why the proposed legislation violated parents’ long held legal right to make medical decisions for their minor children. “Governor Brown’s signing of this legislation signals a negative trend in state public health policy making. Big Pharma has been working behind the scenes in California, Washington and other states to take away parental rights and vaccine exemptions,” said Richardson. “Under federal law, parents are supposed to get vaccine information before their children are vaccinated to help minimize risks and this new California law raises, rather than reduces, vaccine risks for children.”

Bishops say no, abortion advocates say yes to bill taking more rights away from parents

A bill opposed by California’s bishops that would permit children as young as 12 years old to consent to medical treatment to prevent sexually-transmitted diseases – including vaccinations – has passed the state Assembly and is now pending in the Senate.

The bill, AB 499, would permit children 12 years and up to bypass their parents and agree on their own to vaccinations and other means to prevent them from being infected by a sexually-transmitted disease.

“The California Catholic Conference writes that this bill is dangerous because it expands a faulty law which assumes that children know better than their parents, rather than assuming that parents know their children and care about their health,” says a legislative analyst’s review of the bill for the Assembly. “The California Catholic Conference states there are occasions when a minor child is mistreated or abandoned by his or her parents, but it is not the usual case; and that though contingency plans are good when parents are irresponsible, they should not be standard operating procedure.”

Also weighing in against the bill is the California Right to Life Committee, which, said the legislative analyst, “writes that this bill would have the citizen, voter, and taxpayer believe that 12 year olds can be their own medical advisors instead of relying on their own parents.”

Lining up in favor of the bill, among other groups, are the California National Organization for Women, NARAL-Pro-Choice California, the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project of Los Angeles County, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, the Reproductive Justice Coalition, and Women’s Health Specialists, a group that traces its origins to the feminist movement and operates a chain of abortion clinics.

The bill, says the California group Catholics for the Common Good, “will surely pass unless parents mobilize to protect their rights and the rights of their children to have the benefit of their parents’ loving counsel concerning treatment that effects children’s health and welfare.”

“This bill is an attempted end-run, after a failed attempt by the drug company Merck, to make vaccinations for human papilloma virus, an STD, mandatory for girls attending school in 2007,” said Catholics for the Common Good in a June 2 statement. “The bill was eventually withdrawn because of opposition over the uncertainty of the long-term effects, possible reactions with serious consequences, and moral objections based on the cynical message the vaccine sends to children.”

Sexual health doctors have urged the Government to vaccinate against genital warts as part of the school-based jabs programme.

Cases of the sexually transmitted infection (STI) have soared, with an increase of 33 per cent across the South East since 2000.

More than 400 new cases per 100,000 of the population were diagnosed in Kent in 2009.

Medway had the highest rate of the infection at 167 in 2009. Recent figures from Medway’s GUM (genitor-urinary medicine) clinic show cases of genital warts rose 36 per cent from 302 to 412 between 2004 and 2010.

The British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) is campaigning for the Government to switch the vaccine given to young girls to protect against cervical cancer caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) to one that also protects against genital warts, which are caused by the same virus.

Dr Colm O’Mahoney, a consultant in genitor-urinary medicine and spokesman for BASHH, said: “Genital warts are incredibly common, 150,000 cases are now recorded every year and that is a massive number of cases.

“I work on the frontline in sexual health and 50 per cent of my work load is managing and treating genital warts.

“It is a very distressing condition and I see many young women who find they have this ugly and disfiguring condition down below.

“It has a huge psychological impact.

There are some things your readers – and the physicians in the UK should be aware of before pushing for Gardasil.

According to Diane Harper, the lead researcher on Merck’s Gardasil project, the vaccine’s efficacy for genital warts lasts only two years.

There are now 106 VAERS (U.S. Vaccine Adverse Reporting System) reports of anogenital warts post HPV vaccination indicating that Gardasil may not even be effective for the two years, or another HPV strain has replaced the role of the wart causing strains in Gardasil.
