Market Watch

[PR-Logo-Businesswire] WASHINGTON, Oct 10, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) today criticized California Governor Jerry Brown for bowing to pressure from the pharmaceutical and medical trade lobby and signing a controversial bill (AB499) into law that allows 12 year old children to be vaccinated without the knowledge or consent of their parents. The new California law allows minor children as young as 12 years old to be given Gardasil and hepatitis B vaccine, as well as future vaccines for sexually transmitted diseases, without the informed consent of their parents.

[Vac Acne] First it was smallpox. Then polio. Now science has another of humanity’s scourges in its sights: acne.

Sanofi-Pasteur, the world’s biggest vaccine company, has signed a contract with the University of California, San Diego, to develop “an immunological approach to acne prevention and treatment”.

Acne is no joke. “More than 85 per cent of teenagers and over 40 million people in the United States alone are suffering this disease” and many adults have it too, says Chun-Ming Huang, head of the lab at the centre of the deal.

Sacramento, Calif., Sep 7, 2011 / 04:58 pm (CNA).- California Gov. They warn that the bill violates parents’ rights and could give pharmaceutical companies $360 per child vaccinated, at taxpayer expense.

Some women are getting pregnant to avoid getting fat. According to a review published in a recent issue of the journal Contraception, concern about weight gain is among the most common reasons people quit the pill (or decide not to take it in the first place), and most women who discontinue the pill switch to something less effective or nothing at all. Some of those women end up with unintended pregnancies simply because they feared a few extra pounds.

What’s the best way to protect teenage girls from sexually transmitted diseases? Some doctors in Charlotte say the answer is to vaccinate boys.

More than 65 million Americans – that’s one in five – carry a sexually transmitted disease. The most common one – the human papilloma virus, or HPV – affects more than half of sexually active Americans at some point, according to the federal government.

Since 2007, health officials have recommended that adolescent girls get vaccinated against HPV because it can lead to cervical cancer later in life.

Exposure to TV shows and other media depicting sex could lead to sexual precocity in children, a doctor warned, suggesting parents protect their young children from such material.

In a study of 5,000 children conducted over 10 years, Dr. Hou Chia-wei of Cathay General Hospital in Taipei found that most cases of sexual precocity were related to obesity and one fifth of sexually precocious children had long been exposed to TV shows with sexual content.

The believed causes of breast cancer are myriad and well-documented – family history; age; time and type of menopause (i.e. natural or induced by surgery where ovaries are removed); whether or not the woman has had children; over-indulgence of alcohol; smoking; HRT; a compromised immune system etc. To this long list has just been added the height of the person, the age at which a woman began menstruating and – perhaps most crucially – obesity.

A single glass of milk can contain a mixture of as many as 20 painkillers, antibiotics and growth hormones. Using a highly sensitive test, scientists found the chemicals in samples of cow, goat and human breast milk.

The results show how man-made chemicals are now found throughout the food chain. The highest quantities of medicines were found in cow’s milk.
