Sweet Adelines International is a highly respected worldwide organization of women singers committed to 
advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. This independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world’s largest singing organizations for women with 500 choruses, and 1200 quartets.Barbershop singing is one of two musical art forms developed in the USA – the other is jazz.
A Capella, is a four-part harmony music, sung barbershop style. There are barbershop choruses in 10 other countries: Australia, Canada, England, Finland, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, and Sweden.
The first meeting barbershop singing meeting was held on Friday, July 13, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and an educational organization was formed promoting the art form of barbershop singing and performance opportunities.
The Young Women in Harmony program offers music educators a means of including the study and performance of barbershop harmony in school music programs. The aim is to provide materials, training and performance opportunities for young women and to foster appreciation for the American musical art form of barbershop harmony. Various regions or choruses within Sweet Adeline’s organize festivals and school presentations each year. Free educator kits are provided to music educators.
This year’s Women in Harmony International Convention and Contest will be in Denver, Colorado, October 29 – November 3, 2012 Winners of the Regional contests compete.
ACE competed in the regionals last May in Denver, performed at the Rialto in Loveland for the Valentine City Chorus, a regional men’s barbershop singing group , and at the Windsor Harvest Fest. They are kooking forward to Christmas performances and another regional competitive contest in the spring in Colorado Springs.
ACE director, Danielle Forbush, is diverse singer/soloist, and has appeared singing for acclaimed jazz groups New York Voices and Take 6, to soloing with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra in Powell Wyoming. Danielle has most recently performed as a soloist singing with the Loveland Opera Theater. Ms. Forbush has been singing jazz for over fifteen years recording with the four part women’s vocal jazz group Sus4, which received an award for outstanding vocal jazz ensemble by Downbeat Magazine in 2001. She has worked with prominent jazz artists such as, The Real Group, Sunny Wilkinson, and Judi Silvano. As a teacher, clinician and adjudicator, Danielle has worked in Wyoming and Colorado and has coached jazz ensembles and barbershop quartets within those states. She received her Bachelor degree in Music Education and Master degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. While there she studied with Diane Bolden-Taylor and Melissa Malde. Ms. Forbush currently maintains a private music studio and is the musical director for the women’s chorus A Capella Electric. She lives in Colorado with her husband and her four children.
ACE is looking for new members. Fall membership includes one month free membership plus 3 free group and 1 free private voice lessons by Danielle Forbush.
