Dr. Eve Shvidler wrote “Burning the Short White Coat” while still single and in medical school. She is now a practicing physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Shvidler is married, and they have three children.

In “Burning the Short White Coat: A Story of Becoming a Woman Doctor,” author Dr. Eve Shvidler narrates the humor and heartbreak in love and medicine through young medical student Elle Gallagher. A medical chick-lit novel, “Burning the Short White Coat” exposes the personal battles that single women must overcome in balancing a demanding profession and the desire to find a trusting and loving relationship.

Elle Gallagher is a an ambitious first-year medical student embarking on her journey to becoming a doctor in the Midwest. Even though she may have made the right career choice, she still has much to learn about finding the perfect man. She is surrounded by Kaity, a bombshell blonde classmate who falls for her geeky Indian lab partner, and Jainey, a sensible and cynical law student who is tragically denying herself love. After a masochistic night of speed-dating, Elle accidentally stumbles into the arms of Missouri’s biggest playboy, an incident that damages her self-esteem and spins her into a roller coaster of self-discovery. Together, Elle and Kaity confront the realities of rigorous medical school training while trying to maintain their need for male companionship. Burning the Short White Coat exposes the personal battles that single women must overcome in balancing a demanding profession and the desire to find a trusting and loving relationship.

06.24.15 Burning the Short White CoatPress Release: SEATTLE – What happens when “Sex and the City” meets “Grey’s Anatomy?”

In “Burning the Short White Coat: A Story of Becoming a Woman Doctor,” Dr. Eve Shvidler narrates the humor and heartbreak in love and medicine through young medical student Elle Gallagher, just as Candace Bushnell does with Carrie Bradshaw and Shonda Rhimes does with Meredith Grey.

A medical chick-lit novel, “Burning the Short White Coat” exposes the personal battles that single women must overcome in balancing a demanding profession and the desire to find a trusting and loving relationship.

Dr. Shvidler’s inspiration for writing “Burning the Short White Coat” came from her own real-life experiences while in medical school.

“I wanted to capture the raw experience and perspective of medical school training through the eyes of a medical student, in real time,” Dr. Shvidler said.

The book also emphasizes that doctors are human, too, and can make mistakes.

“While our society is supportive of women and their desire to become professionals, we are still bound by our societal goals to find love, relationships and eventually a family in order to call ourselves whole,” Dr. Shvidler said. “How we get there and balance it all is always a challenge we face.”
