Cancer is one of life’s greatest challenges. The Courageous Women extraordinary team of experts will share their wisdom in integrative medicine, yoga, mindfulness practice, healing meditations, art, ritual and more. By integrating body, mind and spirit, we will discover ways to meet the totality of our experience directly and courageously. They are inviting you join them in this transformative journey.

I think that when I first got diagnosed, it was scary for me to research and to understand on my own –
and going to the retreat not only I got to learn and experience
but I did with the help of those amazing professionals, the best in their field –
I can’t tell you how blessed I feel for that! —Graciella E.

This annual five-day retreat brings together ancient wisdom practices and modern day knowledge to create a healing environment that supports and empowers women touched by cancer.

The retreat brings together three powerful healing forces. It is grounded in the contemplative arts of mindfulness and yoga, empowered by knowledge and practical information about health and healing from the integrative medical perspective, and nourished by community and shared experience.

The Courageous Women, Fearless Living retreat was first conceived by the Shambhala Mountain Center in 2005 and the first retreat was held in 2006. The vision for the retreat is to give women who are in any way touched by cancer the community, support, knowledge, and contemplative training they need to better care for themselves or for their loved ones physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Since 2006 over 300 women have attended and many attend multiple times. Shambhala Mountain Center provides generous support in many ways; through room and board discounts that make the retreat more affordable to women often facing financial challenges, by providing all organic foods especially for this retreat, and supporting our marketing efforts.

Most of the faculty has been with the retreat since inception, as have the workshop leaders, which provides a very strong container and continuity of experience. The retreat curriculum has been refined over the years so that it has both breadth and depth and at the same time is flexible and allows for relaxation.

Courageous Women, Fearless Living is currently applying to be an independent 501c3 organization and is making plans for an east coast retreat in 2014.
