Holy Hormones Journal: 40 years ago… shaped who I am today. 40 years. A trip to Planned Parenthood changed my life. Let me remind you that 40 years ago Planned Parenthood was run by feminists committed to sharing information and education about women’s bodies. It was founded on choice. Planned Parenthood was not the corporate giant it is today.
I remember walking into the clinic and learning more about my body in an hour – than anywhere else. I turned around and volunteered and then became a staff member. And because the issues at hand were the Human Life and the Equal Right’s Amendment, I became involved in the National Organization for Women (NOW) and before I knew it president of our local chapter leading rallies on campuses and in town on these issues.
I then published a magazine called “Changing Woman,” one of three or four feminist magazines in Colorado at the time. And in 1990 I began my journey into broadcast media – where I remain today.
The trailer to this movie is below. Please visit the web site for a theater showing near you. Take your daughter. Take your friends. The freedoms you have today were generated by these early feminists – of which I am so proud to be one.
Whatever mistakes have been made along the path and however the movement has been stereotyped, THE ESSENTIAL PROJECT OF FEMINISM HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE PROJECT OF HUMAN FREEDOM.” Andrew O’Hehir, Salon.com
SHE’S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE’S ANGRY resurrects the buried history of the outrageous, often brilliant women who founded the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971. SHE’S BEAUTIFUL takes us from the founding of NOW, with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation; from intellectuals like Kate Millett to the street theatrics of W.I.T.C.H. (Women’s International Conspiracy from Hell!). Artfully combining dramatizations, performance and archival imagery, the film recounts the stories of women who fought for their own equality, and in the process created a world-wide revolution.
