Marian Greene, Chairman and Co-Founder, Truth About Gardasil, spends nearly every waking moment trying to educate people about the risks involved with HPV vaccines versus the limited benefits of those same vaccines. It is not an easy task.

She agreed to take time from her busy schedule to talk with this Examiner about how her journey began and to explain her personal mission.

Marian, I understand this all started with your daughter, can you tell us a little about her?

Of course, Holly was a normal happy teenager who was very active in track. She was accustomed to running between six and ten miles on a daily basis. Holly was so talented, she competed at the state level, held several school records, and had already been approached by numerous college recruiters, even though she was only a junior in high school.

Holly was ranked as one of the best in the state in track. She had dreams of one day competing at the Olympics. Many people told her she was well on her way.

What happened to her?

72 hours after getting her first, and only, Gardasil shot our world turned upside down. She began having difficulty breathing, and then chest pains. She was getting weaker and sicker by the moment. We spent the next week either at the doctor’s office, or in the emergency room. No one could find the cause of her problems. More importantly, no one could find a way to help her.

During one of her multiple visits to the emergency room, I mentioned to the doctor that Holly had just received a Gardasil shot. He immediately ordered a blood test that showed she may have a blood clot around her lung. She was then sent for a CT Scan. It showed that instead of a clot, she had developed swelling and inflammation around her heart.

According to the emergency room doctor, the inflammation was directly attributable to the Gardasil Vaccine. In fact, the doctor told me had Holly not been taking Motrin for her shin splints, she probably would not have survived the nine days since her shot.

The doctor actually attributed her symptoms to the shot?

Yes, the doctor seemed to have no doubt about the situation.

How did you respond?

It was that very second my fight began. I knew I had to do whatever I could to prevent other girls from going through what my previously healthy and vibrant daughter was experiencing.

I remember the terror of seeing Holly fighting for her life and knowing there was nothing I could do to help her. I had to warn others, so that no other parent would have to experience what we were going through.

Can you tell us a little about your journey since the day the doctor attributed Holly’s health problems to Gardasil?

Certainly, I remember spending many sleepless nights hovered over the computer trying to find someone – ANYONE – who could help my baby. I happened upon a Yahoo group established by Anita Tindell called “Let’s Talk About Gardasil.” There I met other parents going through the same things because of HPV vaccines.

Isn’t that where you met Rosemary Mathis, Co-Founder of

Yes, it was. I can’t remember the exact date, but I clearly recall how comforting it was to find someone in the same situation as I, who lived so close to me. It’s actually a very odd feeling, you are sad and angry that someone else is going through the same things. But at the same time, it’s comforting because you know they understand. Rosemary and I became friends almost immediately.
