As a fertility and sex educator,  I often think about all the parts of being a woman – not just making babies or infertility.

For much of our lives as women, we are ruled by biological cycles.  Our menstruation is based on approximately a 28 day cycle and can often influence how we react to the world around us. I love Dr. Christiane Northrop and I am especially drawn to what she has to say about the wisdom that women can get by tuning into their menstrual cycles. If you have not had a chance to read “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom” – no matter where you are in the life cycle of being a woman – this is the book to read. I continue to find it the most powerful book out there for women about who we are.

Dr. Northrop believes that menstruation is a time for women to let go of all of their emotional junk for the month. It is a clearing out time, and a time for letting go.  Dr. Northrop also believes that peri-menopause is also a time for women to complete many of our life long issues – that it is a time to really listen to our bodies and our selves. As a woman who is now in peri-menopause – and moving through so many transitions – I often remind myself that I am doing my own bodies work right now. It is actually comforting.
