Husbands Can Now Have Sex with Wives Up to 6 Hours after Death in Egypt

egypt

Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives – for up to six hours after their death.
The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.
It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women’s rights of getting education and employment.

Arrest Rate for Rape Unchanged since late 1970′s – this is an Unfinished Revolution

Unfinished Revolution

The U.S. has struggled to make progress in the way the criminal-justice system addresses violence against women and girls. Only in the last 40 years have laws and systems been put in place to prohibit a victim’s prior sexual activity from being entered into evidence, to eliminate the requirement that there be a corroborating witness to a rape, and to create procedures to collect physical evidence from victims.

Ending Violence Against Women is a Man’s Issue too

we-are-man-logo

For too long women have stood alone. When it comes to violence against women, too many of us still think it’s “just” a women’s issue. In particular, it is about time MPs took this seriously. Here’s why.

Sexual and physical violence at the hands of a man affects a staggering 45% of women in England and Wales sometime in their lives. That’s one-quarter of British voters. Voters. People who give our politicians their jobs.

Until the last few years of the 1990s Ireland had the reputation of being the most sexually repressed country in Europe, where women were second class citizens and the Catholic church ruled virtually unchallenged. But things have changed fast. A national survey in 1973-1974 found that three out of four people thought sex outside marriage was always wrong. A survey in 1997 found that 21 to 24 year olds had, on average, had 13 different sexual partners.1 In 1990 Dublin’s Virgin Megastore was fined £500 for selling condoms. In 1999 the Dublin government spent £500,000 promoting the use of condoms.2

Promiscuous women cause earthquakes. Suntanned women deserve jail time.

You’d think I was making this stuff up, but sadly I’m not.

In an effort to enforce the highly conservative values of Iranian law – like women being covered from head to toe – religious and now police officials are cracking down on women’s behavior.

Twice a year, I get really lame-brained “Warning!” emails about the latest crimes against women and/or tips-for-the-gullible on how to stay safe. They are typically lumped under subject lines that say “Prevent Sexual Assault!” or “Caution: Criminals Lurk in Dumpsters” or some such nonsense. Given that I’m an expert in personal safety and self-defense, they are mind-bogglingly stupid to me and my colleagues at IMPACT Personal Safety…

Greater vision needed for gender equality in workforce, report says

The women’s branch of the AKP has prepared a report that highlights obstacles faced by women seeking employment in Turkey. Gender equality is out of balance because women are paid less than men and there are fears of sexual harassment, transportation problems, loopholes in insurance plans and discrimination by male employees, according to the report.
