Four deaths not due to flawed vaccine!

New Delhi: Four deaths not due to flawed vaccine: Halting trials of Gardasil, a cervical cancer vaccine was a precautionary measure. This was not an approval that it resulted complications and caused death in a few.


Dr V M Katoch, director general of Indian Council of Medical Research stated that four deaths were reported but not due to flawed vaccine.

It has been found that 2 deaths occurred due to poisoning, one because of drowning and another because of pyrexia of unknown origin.

In this regard he also stated that he suspended Gardasil to prove to the public that this allegation is false and that all ethical guidelines will be pursued in this trial.

Globally each year, 4.9 lakh women are affected by cervical cancer and 2.7 lakh deaths occur due to cervical cancer.
