What are those initial signs that may suggest a possibility of infertility? If we are alert to the symptoms, there may be better chances of tackling the problem in the early stages of the disease. These symptoms become perceptible in numerous ways. It may manifest as unbalanced sexual behavior, or mental depression. Other signs are endocrine gland disturbances or malnutrition and decay of physical health of the individual. Infertility is also influenced by the lifestyle, emotional well being, and financial issues, all of which may affect mental state. Any of the above factors can trigger a temporary state of infertility which is reversible. So it is important that we make a distinction between infertility and impotency, the latter which is a state of sexual dysfunction.

That a potent male can impregnate a female during her menstrual cycle is of common knowledge. But most people are unaware that there exists a hormone cycle for the males of the species too. While in females there is a regular cycle of ovulation every 28 days, there is no fixed pattern, which can be traced to the male hormonal cycle. The sperm count in males is not in sync with the hormone cycle and the release of the sperm is at will for the men. The ability to impregnate the female depends on the quality of the sperm which is very much dependent on the general health of the individual. But it has been observed that both men and women show advanced signs of infertility with progression of age.
