HORMONES RULE! Thank you Jonathan Bailor for an informative and eye-opening interview on why we are gaining weight. It’s not about the calories, or the exercise or how much or how little we eat - it is all about how well our hormones communicate! The interview is now posted. Please share. The Smarter Science of Slim is the most important book you will ever read! Thanks, Jonathan for writing this most important book. I am in ‘hormone heaven.’
Join Leslie Carol Botha on Monday, June 4, on Holy Hormones Honey! when she interviews Jonathan Bailor, author of the Smarter Science of Slim on KRFC FM – from
6 to 7 pm MST.
Jonathan Bailor has a proven track record and a passion for solving tough problems. He is an accomplished public speaker with a knack for entertaining while he educates. Bailor speaks to and consults with Fortune 50 companies and has done so for the past decade. As an entrepreneur, Bailor has started successful businesses, authored the critically acclaimed book “The Smarter Science of Slim,” produced a promotional magazine, helped develop a radio show, holds more than 20 U.S. Patents and invented the marque feature in Microsoft Office 2010.
Bailor became an exercise and fitness devotee early in his life, spending hours in the gym and carefully monitoring his diet and exercise. As a personal trainer, he worked closely with clients who would achieve the results they wanted as long as they spent countless hours exercising and followed restrictive diets, but without constant coaxing to “eat less and exercise more,” would inevitably harm their health and gain back more weight than they lost. Bailor shared the frustration of his clients and carried the burden of recommending a lifestyle that was not sustainable. He began to suspect that much of what society had been told about diet and exercise was based on trendy opinions spurred by corporate advertising hype, rather than scientific fact.
Thus began Bailor’s most intensive work - a ten year odyssey to analyze thousands of scientific studies and interview top medical researchers regarding the proven science of long-term health and fat loss. Upon discovering a disturbing disconnect between what the scientific community had proven about wellness and what we as a society are told, Bailor committed his life to work with top doctors and scientists around the world to make the research he gathered accessible to everyone.
Ten years of collaboration, over 1,100 research studies, and more than 10,000 pages of scientific research later comes “The Smarter Science of Slim,” which bridges the gap between the scientific world and the everyday world, dispels the myths and marketing that have fueled the current health care crisis, and provides a proven lifestyle for lasting wellness by focusing on quality of food and exercise and then eating more and exercising less – but smarter.
When he is not consulting or speaking, Bailor works as a senior program manager at Microsoft. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from DePauw University where he studied economics, philosophy and computer science. Bailor currently resides in Bellevue, Wash. with his wife.

Since the 1970’s we have been told that eating less and exercising more is healthy and leads to lasting weight loss. Since then obesity, diabetes, and other diet related diseases have risen to epidemic levels, overtaken tobacco as leading cause of death in the United States, and account for over $190 billion a year in health-care spending.
Consistent with these trends, but in sharp contrast to what the food, fitness, and pharmaceutical industries tell us, Jonathan Bailor’s new book The Smarter Science of Slim, the single largest scientific analysis of health and fitness ever conducted, proves that eating less and exercising more harms our health and leads to fat gain 95.4 percent of the time.
The Smarter Science of Slim simplifies the analysis of over 1,100 scientific studies to bridge the gap between the scientific world and the everyday world, dispel the myths and marketing that have fueled the current health care crisis, and provide a proven lifestyle for lasting wellness by focusing on quality of food and exercise and then eating more and exercising less – but smarter. The Smarter Science of Slim is endorsed by the world-wide scientific community including top doctors at the Harvard Medical School, John Hopkins, and UCLA, and approved as curriculum for registered dieticians (RDs) by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
“We all know what the typical approach leads to,” remarked Bailor who is confident that the last forty years of research from the most brilliant medical minds around the world prove that we can use this atypical “eat more, exercise less—but smarter” approach to generate atypical results: improved health and reduced obesity and diet-related disease rates.
While working as a personal trainer Bailor experienced firsthand how ineffective traditional approaches to health and fitness were. While his clients would achieve the results they wanted as long as they trained for an unsustainable amount of time with Bailor, without constant coaxing to “eat less and exercise more,” they would inevitably harm their health and gain back more weight than they lost. The disappointing long-term results he was delivering to his clients made Bailor determined to find a more sustainable approach.
Having exhausted traditional health and fitness resources, Bailor started reading all the academic research on the topic that he could find. Discovering a disturbing disconnect between what the international scientific community had proven about wellness and what we as a society are told, Bailor dedicated a decade to working with top doctors and scientists around the world to make the research he gathered accessible to everyone.

I am looking for an expert who can help with an adverse reaction to bioidentical testosterone. I have been on bioidentical pellets for two years, but the testosterone makes me extrememly sleepy (not just tired, but activley sleepy like I have taken a sedative), and I have gained about 17 pounds since starting. I reduced the dose two insertions ago, and was not as sleepy, but had low energy levels. For my most recent insertion, I went back to the regualr dose (125mg) , and I am activley sleepy again (I have to sleep during the day and sleep all night). No one seems to understand this reaction, or know what to do when the pellets do not work like they are supposed to. Is there anyone out there with knowledge of adverse reactions to testosterone?
Debra - Thank you for visiting my blog and letting us know what you are looking for.
I have asked a couple of experts I work with to get back to me to see if they can help you.
I am sure I will hear back today and let you know right away.
I will help you find the expert you need.

I would consult with Dr. Catherine Evans Rott Dnm- she has amazing understanding of hormone issues. You can locate her on her facebook page. She has helped me come out of brain fog and other hormone issues.
Hello, Katie - Good thinking on including Dr. C in this loop. I will reach out to her today. I am delighted to see that my blog is becoming a safe place for women to support each other through hormonal issues. On Monday night, June 11, I will be interviewing Anthony Stephans with Truehope. Tony developed his product with a colleague after his wife and two children suffered from bipolar disorder. It will be an important show for everyone who has experienced a hormone fluctuation.
